For series three, we have spoken to Mary Cunniffe of Templeogue, Angie Treacy of Finglas, Robert Maguire of Clondalkin & Nicola Bradley-King of Cork Street.

Originally from Kiltoom, Co. Roscommon, Mary has been a cherished member of Massey Bros. for an incredible 15 years.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECT OF THE JOB?

Taking bereaved families by the hand, wrapping them in cotton wool and walking them through the worst days of their lives.

How did you become interested in the funeral industry?

Following the sudden death of my in-laws within a few months of one another, I had the opportunity to meet a Funeral Planning Company who were entering the Irish market. I was extremely interested in the concept following the death of two very important people in my life, so much so the Company offered me the job of Regional Sales/Support Manager for Ireland and I have never looked back, I found my true calling in life.

What does your job mean to you?

Fulfillment - it is the most rewarding work I could ever do.


Angie Treacy

'Angie' who is a valuable member of the Finglas Community has been with Massey Bros. for 8 years.⁠

how did you become involved in the funeral industry?

I met the Maguire family through Erin’s Isle GAA Club where I was volunteering and assisting in fundraising. I had the opportunity to see the amazing work that Massey Bros. were doing in the community with grieving families and thought that I would like to be a part of that and provide the same support to my community. ⁠

WHAT is your favourite part of the day?

Meeting people within the community, not only those who are grieving but those who we can support in other ways. ⁠

What are the attributes that you think are needed to be a funeral arranger?

I think empathy is the most important attribute that is needed, to be able to understand and listen to what people are going through and make them feel like they’re the only people to have ever lost someone. ⁠


Robert Maguire

Robert Maguire, from Donnybrook, joined Massey Bros. in 2006.

how did you become interested in the funeral industry?

Growing up in a family business where our home was a 24hr place where calls were taken every night by my father or one of my sisters to help guide bereaved families, caring for people was second nature in our family. I saw the role from a completely different perspective when I lost a close friend of mine during college. It gave me a real insight into how being a funeral director is so much more than just a job. The support, empathy, and guidance that we offer when people are grieving and sometimes at their lowest, is a great privilege.

WHAT Makes massey bros special?

The people who work here every day, and the care we show the families that we look after. We know no different and go the extra mile. We truly care for the work we do and are determined to continue to honour the person's life to the highest standard for generations to come. ⁠


Nicola Bradley-King

Originally from Clondalkin, Nicola has been an important member of Massey Bros. for 5 years.

what does your job mean to you?

Everything - It’s a huge honour and responsibility to look after a bereaved family and our team effort in Logistics and the whole company ensure that we treat each family with guidance, kindness, and respect.

how do massey bros support families once a funeral is over?

All our arrangers forge a special bond with each family they encounter, and it’s the same for the team in the Logistics Centre. Our phones are always available for families that need support after a funeral, particularly in relation to headstones, memorial books, jewellery, or simply a listening ear.
