Colin Martin McCusker, Branch Manager and funeral arranger at Massey Bros Blackrock Co. Dublin

Originally, from a small town called Keady in Co. Armagh Northern Ireland, Colin has lived in Dublin for almost 13 years.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECT OF THE JOB?

I love that every day in this role brings a new challenge, and every day is a learning day. I am also blessed to work with an amazing group of professionals who make the client feel they are the most important person…. which they are.

WHAT DOES YOUR JOB MEAN TO YOU?

It means everything to me. I know so many people in jobs and roles that they dislike or even hate. Also being part of a professional organization particularly in this industry is very important as client satisfaction is paramount.

Margaret Hanlon

Margaret Hanlon, Branch Manager and Funeral Arranger of Clondalkin

Margaret has been a valuable member of Massey Bros. for an incredible 30 + years. Margaret worked as a florist for Patrick Massey Funeral Directors and helped with resposes, she then realized that this is what she loved doing - meeting, and greeting people and feeling that she was able to provide support and sympathy at their time in life when they needed it most.

WHAT IS THE FAVOURITE PART OF YOUR DAY?

I would have to say that when a family come in to see me after a funeral that I have looked after, with a thank you card or just maybe a few words of deep appreciation for my help and assistance, that is what makes my day.

WHAT ARE THE ATTRIBUTES THAT YOU THINK ARE NEEDED TO BE A FUNERAL ARRANGER?

Professional, Kind, Compassionate, good listener, and patient. Meeting people, giving advice and assistance, being an important role model in the community.

Andrew Maguire

Andrew Maguire, Director and Branch Manager of Finglas and Cabra funeral home

Andrew has worked with Massey Bros. for over 15 years. When I was younger, I remember how hard my dad worked. I would spend time in and out of different funeral homes. I could see the respect, dignity, care, & empathy he showed families, I always wanted to follow in his footsteps.

WHY DO YOU ENJOY WORKING IN THE FUNERAL SERVICE?

This is not a job that anyone can do. This passion I have for helping local families to celebrate their loved ones isn’t a choice, it’s my every day, and I am honoured to live the life I do.

WHAT MAKES MASSEYS BROS SPECIAL?

It is a family business, and we look after families at a very sad time in their life. All the staff in Massey Bros. really do care and are very genuine and loving people. The staff we have are fantastic people who I love working with daily. We are there for each other, some funerals can take a lot out of you, and it is good to know you can be open with your colleagues and be supported, and looked after by them.

Freddie Maguire, Chairman of Massey Bros.

“When my mother alongside her brothers established the company more than 80 years ago they did so out of a desire to support and care for local bereaved families. That support and care still lie at the heart of the company today.”
